Cartlidge House is a multi-purpose care setting for older adults, catering for a broad spectrum of residents. We provide support for adults with dementia, individuals with mobility challenges and persons who need extra support due to frailty. The scheme houses 54 residents in individual rooms, including our rehabilitation household, which is for people making the transition from hospital to their own homes, after illness or operations.
Situated in the residential area of Telford, Cartlidge House has its own garden which is maintained by residents and staff, and includes purpose built planters for residents to grow their own flowers and food produce. The planters have been adapted by maintenance staff, to ensure that they are fully inclusive for all residents. We are in close proximity to Oakengates, which offers a variety of pubs, cafes and shopping facilities including a vintage tea room, a library and pharmacy. Residents are supported to visit Oakengates on a weekly basis; however, we also encourage residents to venture further afield within the locality, with regular trips to The Southwater development, Ironbridge and other Accord schemes, including those in Woodside and Donnington. Cartlidge House advocates the Eden Alternative, which actively encourages spontaneity and we have a varied, flexible and exciting programme of weekly activities, with all decisions being made by the residents through consultation. Through activities such as reminiscence with Wrockwardine Wood primary school, pet therapy and exercise classes, all residents are given opportunity to continue to grow, express their individuality and feel connected to their community.
We challenge loneliness, helplessness and boredom by creating a sense of community that is based around the needs of our residents. By creating an environment where life revolves around close and continuing contact with plants, animals and children, we help people live full and exciting lives. We believe that no matter how old we are or what challenges we live with, life is about continuing to grow.
