Eden Training ‘The seeds of the Eden Alternative are planted in people’s hearts. It is, after all, with our hearts, rather than our eyes, that we see what is essential in this world’ (Dr. Bill Thomas – The Art of building a Human Habitat) Eden Alternative training is highly interactive, maximising the involvement of all participants and building on their current experience. Evaluation of organisations introducing the philosophy of the Eden Alternative by trained Associates in the UK has shown that the empowerment it has given to staff and subsequently to residents has been most beneficial. Staff are given permission to use their creativity in the care they provide and in the environment they create for their residents in order to give them a life worth living. Eden Alternative Associate training can be delivered in a variety of ways depending on the requirements of the organisation or individual. These include
Eden Associate Training develops an understanding of the ten principles of the Eden Alternative that underpin the Eden Alternative philosophy and gives specific suggestions and guidelines for putting them into practice. On returning to their organisations Associates are able to help staff, residents and their relatives interpret and adopt the principles of Eden on both an intellectual and emotional level in their own environments. The National course provides participants with an opportunity to share experiences and knowledge and creates communities of support which operate after the course has ended and participants are meeting the challenges of implementation in their facilities. All those who complete the training will receive a certificate and will be registered on the EU Eden Associate Register. For further information about Eden Associates click here. Eden Associate Training In-house Eden Associate Training can be very successfully delivered in-house. Many organisations have chosen this option. Training a group of senior staff or a cross section of all staff as Eden Associates has the advantage of generating levels of expertise throughout the organisation/home which accelerates the process of culture change. What does it cost By negotiation Hosting an Eden Associate Training Course Most Eden training in the USA is based around a facility hosting an Eden Associate course which is attended by staff from other organisations. This may be a way for a smaller home or group of homes to train a small group of key staff without the costs associated with sending them off site. The host organisation is primarily responsible for costs associated with the venue and catering. The Eden Alternative trainers are responsible for all other costs associated with the course. If you or your organisation would be interested in exploring this idea further please call 01225 309 238 or email june@eden-alternative.co.uk.
